| Geographx is based in the old Dominion Observatory, an Edwardian building which overlooks Wellington City from an elevated site in the Botanic Gardens (100m from the Cable Car top station). The Observatory was built in 1907. It originally housed the telescope used to keep astronomical time. Subsequently it served for a period as the New Zealand Seismological Office. The Dominion Observatory carries a NZ Historic Places Trust Category 1 Registration. The Krupps field gun on the lawn outside is a war prize, seized on the Western Front at La Vacquerie, North Eastern France, in 1918. |
